Nurse, Founder, Empowered Birth Project
A Registered Nurse and mother of three boys, her three birth experiences—a hospital birth, home birth, and a planned unassisted home birth turned emergency cesarean—led her to create the Empowered Birth Project. The platform has over 450K followers and has evolved to facilitate healing through story telling and to share important information and education about birth. In 2017, she took on Instagram to allow uncensored birth images with a petition with over 22K signatures.

Dr. Shakira Henderson is a hospital-based nurse researcher, health educator, certified neonatal nurse, and founder and Senior System Administrator of the Vidant Health Center for Research and Grants. Dr. Henderson serves as an elected member and neonatal expert on the national board for the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses, as well as on the International board of Lactation Consultant Examiners.

She is a frequent writer and TV contributor and co-author of a monthly column in the Washingtonian Magazine on happenings in the DC area.

Dawn Godbolt, PhD, is a health policy analyst at the National Partnership for Women & Families, where she works to expand access to health care and advocates for federal health policies that eliminate health disparities and provide greater access to care for marginalized groups.

Katie Shea Barrett is the founding Executive Director of March for Moms. She is a mom of two, a post-partum hemorrhage survivor, and brings over 15 years of leadership experience in health care policy and health system transformation.

Ginger Breedlove is the President of the March for Moms Board and is a past president of the American College of Nurse-Midwives. Presently, she owns a consulting company, Grow Midwives, LLC.
